JV Red wins rematch against Grizzlies

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Freshman Jocelyn Villaflor scored eight points in the fourth quarter, including the go-ahead three-pointer, as St. Francis' JV Red squad won its rematch against Granite Bay in girls' frosh-soph basketball action Tuesday night.

The Troubadours improve to 3-2 for the year.

Meanwhile, the SF varsity and JV Gold squads were swept in a road doubleheader at McClatchy. Varsity lost by a 71-34 final in a rematch of the Troubies' second-round playoff game last February, while JV Gold fell, 51-25, to the Lions.

Villaflor finished with 10 points, matching point guard Natalie Zitelli for the team lead. The Troubies trailed 13-9 at halftime and 20-16 entering the final stanza before coming alive offensively. Villaflor scored eight in the finale, including two three-pointers plus a layup with nine seconds left that clinched the victory.

JV Red previously faced Granite Bay at home, with the Grizzlies coming away with a 26-23 win in that January 30 meeting.

The three SF squads head in different directions as the school begins final examinations later in the week. Varsity will compete in Del Oro's Mike Takayama Memorial Tournament, opening with Franklin of Stockton on Thursday afternoon at 4:30. Gold heads to rival Christian Brothers and its La Salle Classic, where the Troubies face Folsom at 3:30 on Thursday. The all-frosh Red will take the weekend off to focus on final exams, returning to action at Oak Ridge's Trojan Toss-Up on December 21-23.
