WOODLAND, Calif. – Junior second baseman Jaeya Leavitt reached base on all three plate appearances but St. Francis managed just four total hits in a 8-0 shutout loss at Pioneer in non-league' high school fastpitch action Thursday afternoon.
The Troubadours drop their third straight game, slipping to 1-5 for the year.
Leavitt, Alexis McFarland, Marissa Jensen and Reese Lewis accounted for the four SF hits, with McFarland ripping a double in the sixth. That set up the Troubies' best scoring opportunity, with a Jensen walk and a Lewis single loading the bases with just one out. However, Patriot senior Jia Beebe got the next two players to pop up in the infield, keeping all three runners stranded.
Leavitt walked to lead off the third, singled in the fifth, and walked in the seventh. Her first free pass got her around to third, thanks to a Claire Krotine sacrifice and a fielder's choice.
St. Francis sophomore Kinsley Imm suffered the loss despite just two earned runs in her five innings in the pitching circle.
Thursday's visit to Pioneer marks the end of the preseason non-league stretch. The Troubies return to action on March 14 at Rocklin for their first Sierra Foothill League game.
