Troubie offense explodes to 13-5 victory over Tigers

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior pitcher Hope Jenkins fired her second no-hitter of the 2022 season while rapping three hits at the plate, leading St. Francis to a six-inning, 10-0 shutout of Inderkum in non-league prep softball action at Schuster Field Wednesday afternoon.

The Troubadours improve to 5-1 for the season.

Jenkins, a UConn-bound righty, fanned 14 total batters in the game, not allowing a Tiger batted ball beyond the infield until the sixth inning. She struck out 10 of the first 11, plus the side in the fifth inning. Only a walk in that fifth prevented a perfect game.

Offensively, the top four batters in the SFHS order combined for 9-for-13 hitting. Leadoff and designated player Amy Abueg finished 3-for-4 with four runs scored and a two-run homer in the second. Haley Kim delivered a two-run bomb of her own in the fourth. Grace Jenkins went 2-for-2 with a double and two walks. Hope Jenkins went 3-for-4 and had the walk-off double in the sixth to invoke the 10-run mercy rule.

The Troubies pushed across exactly two runs in each of the first, second, third, fourth and sixth frames to reach 10 total tallies.

Meanwhile on the junior varsity field, St. Francis plated five runs in the third and four in the fourth en route to a 13-5 win over the Tigers. Shortstop Sorina Pometta hit 3-for-4 while Taylor TraficanHailey StrangeTaylor LewisRylee Coauette and Lexi Salmons each added two hits. Trafican allowed just five hits and two earned runs while striking out seven in the pitching circle.

The two St. Francis teams return to action in more than a week, traveling to Pioneer High on March 25.
