SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sorina Pometta collected three hits while Natalie Vigil rapped an RBI triple in the sixth to lead St. Francis junior varsity to a 10-6 win over Christian Brothers as part of the Holy Diamond rivalry game Monday afternoon.

 

On the opposite diamond, senior right-hander Hope Jenkins struck out 10 Falcon batters in a six-inning no-hitter, twin sister Grace Jenkins finished 3-for-4 with a double, and second baseman Amy Abueg launched a leadoff homer, highlighting the varsity's 10-0 win over Christian Brothers at Schuster Field.

 

This is the first no-hitter for the UConn-bound flamethrower since she blanked Rosemont, 11-0, in five innings on March 24, 2021. The Troubadours improve to 2-0 for the year.

 

Hope Jenkins fanned seven of the first nine batters she faced, with only a pair of ground outs to the right side putting her defense to work in the initial frames. CB center fielder Hannah Tandy reached on a walk to break up the perfect game and Ruby Warren reached on an error to give the Falcons' their lone baserunners, but a pop-up and another strikeout ended the threat.

 

Meanwhile, the Troubies took an immediate lead when Abueg deposited an 0-1 pitch over the left-field fence for a solo homer in the first. Hope Jenkins drove in shortstop Francesca Guerrera with her double in the third, then scored on her own to extend the SF lead to 3-0.

 

The Troubies plated four more in the fourth. Jazzy Basquez led off with a single, then Isabelle Vela sacrificed Basquez to second. Abueg continued the rally with her second hit of the game, Guerrera walked, then Grace Jenkins slammed a two-bagger to cap the frame. Grace Jenkins then recorded her third hit of the day as part of a three-run sixth. With no outs, third baseman Kayla Garber rapped a sharp grounder through the CB first baseman, bringing in Hope Jenkins and invoking the 10-run rule.

 

The Troubadours return to action on Tuesday for a game at Rocklin, then return home to host River City on Friday. Both games start at 3:30 p.m.
