Alumna Marissa Kolokotronis ('13) has been elevated to lead the St. Francis Water Polo program as its new varsity head coach, Athletic Director Mark McGreevy announced today. She returned to her alma mater to serve as JV head coach during the 2019 season and varsity assistant during the COVID affected year that played in the Spring of 2021.
Coach Kolokotronis shared, "After an incredibly challenging year, I'm excited to return to a season with some semblance of normalcy. I look forward to instilling a love of this sport and sisterhood among our team. I am confident my enthusiasm for this year will only be matched by the girls' determination. Go Troubies!"
"Marissa embodies our pillars of Faith, Excellence, Leadership, and Service," commented McGreevy. "Originally as a student-athlete and in the last two years as a St. Francis coach, she has clearly demonstrated expertise in the sport but also an inspired dedication to the development and empowerment of her students as both athletes and as young women."
Kolokotronis played four seasons for Ivy League power Brown University. She earned ACWPC Honorable Mention All-America honors as a senior after leading the team in goals (69), points (97), and steals (33). She helped the Bears win the Collegiate Water Polo Association title as a senior. Overall, she scored 190 goals in her career.
At St. Francis, she was a two-time All-American and two-time USA Water Polo Academic All-American. She was a four-year letter winner and co-captain. She was named the Offensive Player of the Year in the 2012-13 season and a three-time all-area selection. She participated in the US Olympic Development Program from 2010-12. She also was on the swim team for three seasons.
She was a four-time ACWPC Superior All-Academic honoree and garnered Academic All-Ivy recognition. Kolokotronis graduated from Brown in 2017 with a degree in Urban Studies.
Kolokotronis has coached with the 12U girls team with the American River Water Polo Club from 2012-13 and led the Brown Water Polo Elite Summer Camp in 2015.
