Lacrosse Sophia Garona Wins Dale Lacky Scholarship

St. Francis' very own Sophia Gorona ('21) has been awarded the Delta League's nomination for the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) Sac-Joaquin Section Scholar-Athlete Award. Sophia is the one female athlete chosen from the Delta League for this award.  "I was really excited and honored. It's taken a lot of hard work over the past four years.  I'm excited to have a senior season!"

For the past three years, Sofia has played women's varsity lacrosse at St. Francis where her contributions have been extremely valuable. She leads the school in points per game, assists, and draws controls.

The CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Scholar-Athlete Award is a scholarship for student-athletes of schools under the Sac-Joaquin section, named in memoriam of Clarke Coover and A. Dale Lacky.

The committee looks for candidates whose academic and athletic careers have been truly exemplary. Qualifications include: Being a graduating senior, have been a two-year varsity letterman, have a record of good citizenship, have a minimum of a 3.70 unweighted GPA, and a minimum of 1000 on the SAT or a 19 on the ACT. They also require a student essay in order to be considered.
