Highly Regarded David Carmichael Takes Helm of Troubie Hoops

After a thorough review of many highly qualified candidates, St. Francis Catholic High School is very pleased to announce that David Carmichael has been selected as the new Varsity Head Coach to lead the Troubadour Basketball program. During the selection process, Coach Carmichael impressed the committee with both his basketball expertise and his strong commitment to student development and empowerment.

In accepting the offer, Carmichael commented, "The opportunity to continue to impact the lives of young people through sports is the ultimate gift! I have been very blessed throughout my life, and I am truly looking forward to this next chapter with St. Francis!"

Coach Carmichael is well known in the local basketball community.  During his 25 years at Sacramento City College, Carmichael coached both the men's (1987-2000) and women's (2000-20212) basketball teams.  For the past three seasons, Carmichael served as the Assistant Coach at Christian Brothers High School, helping lead the Falcons to three consecutive section championship appearances and earning the Sac-Joaquin Section crown twice. He served a year as the interim head coach at California State University Monterey Bay, leading the Otters to a conference playoff appearance in 1999.  Prior to SCC, he served as both the men's and women's basketball coach at Oxnard College in southern California from 1980-1987.

During his tenure at SCC, Carmichael taught adaptive physical education.  He holds a BS in Physical Education with a minor in Sociology-Black History from California State University Fullerton where he was a member of the Titan's basketball team.  He earned his master's degree in Physical Education at Azusa Pacific University. In a final fun fact, Coach Carmichael is the proud grandfather of a former Troubie Hoops player, Maya Curiale ('19).
