Junior Miles Places 12th at Section Diving Championships

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior Maddy Miles posted a 343.85 score for her 11-dive schedule to place 12th overall at the Sac-Joaquin Section Varsity Diving Championships Friday at McClatchy High School.

"Maddy has been very inspired this year and has worked very hard," said Head Coach Dede Crayne. "I thought she did a very good performance for her. She did her last two dives really well to stay in the Top 16."

The competition started with 47 athletes with cuts after the third (32), fifth (20) and eighth (16) dives.

"I felt pretty good," said Miles. "There were a lot of good divers out here today. I did as best as I could. It was great to make the Top 16 and make all the cuts."

Miles said her front double was her favorite dive of the day.

"I stuck it really well and it was a really good dive," said Miles.

Miles was the top finisher for the Troubadours among four in the competition.

Junior Maddie Covert placed 27th overall.

"I think I did pretty well and definitely better than last year," said Covert. "The season has been great and we have a lot of team bonding. The team is bigger than it has been. We have really grown as a team and come really far."

Senior Arissa Vallejo competed in her final meet, placing in 41st overall, while freshman Lauren Bernas placed 45th in her first section meet.

"Lauren is a new diver and you will see good things from her in the future," said Crayne.
