Carsey Finishes Second at Section Junior Varsity Diving Meet

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Hannah Carsey led three St. Francis divers in the top 10 at the Sac-Joaquin Section Junior Varsity Diving Championships held on Friday at McClatchy High School.

"We had a lot of fun as a team today," said Carsey. "It is pretty rewarding because we worked hard this year. I thought it was a really good season and our coach (Dede Crayne) is really good at helping us improve and get upgrades."

Carsey finished second overall with an 11-dive score of 326.40 to finish behind only Lauren Marsteen of Bella Vista (362.00).

"The Frosh/Soph group was amazing," said Crayne. "Next year she (Carsey) will be competitive on varsity and I see really good things coming from her."

Sophomore Sammie Calagna placed sixth (269.55) after placing 16th overall in 2018.

"Sammie is as solid of a diver you will find," said Crayne. "She is steady and what she does, she does really well."

She won the Jesuit/St. Francis Invitational and Delta League Championship individual titles at the Frosh/Soph level.

"This season we were able to grow and get a lot better with our dives," said Calagna. "It really helped us prepare for next year on varsity."

Freshman Delia Gagnon scored 254.65 to finish seventh overall and give St. Francis three in the top seven divers. Sister Marisa Gagnon was 23rd overall.
