Troubies rout Cougars in JV makeup game

Troubies rout Cougars in JV makeup game

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Freshman Ariella Alcantar hit 4-for-4 with two doubles and four runs batted in, while Emma Fox, Gianna Flesoras and Lilian Desmond each had three hits, as St. Francis rolled past Del Campo, 16-1, in a junior varsity softball game Wednesday.

The Troubadours improve to 7-3 for the season. Wednesday's contest was added to the schedule quite literally at the 11th hour as a makeup date for the March 19 meeting with the Cougars. The game had been tentatively planned, but an umpire was not secured until the morning of.

Overall, St. Francis totaled 21 hits, with every player managing at least one. Fox finished 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, Desmond was 3-for-4 with a double at the bottom of the order, while Flesoras went 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs at the plate. In fact, Fox and Desmond each had their two-baggers in an eight-run third.

Center fielder Marissa Jensen hit 2-for-5 with the game's only triple. Jocelyn Villaflor was 2-for-3 with two walks. Finally, freshman pitcher Haydyn Haecker allowed just the one run in a six-inning complete game, while helping her own cause with a 2-for-3 day at the plate.

The win over Del Campo also allowed St. Francis to get much-needed game action. Between weather, a shortage of players, or the Sacramento area's overall lack of umpires, the Troubie jayvees have had nine of their last 11 games either canceled or forfeited.

Both St. Francis varsity and JV return to action on Friday for Delta League action at Elk Grove. First pitch is 4 p.m.
