Bats stay hot as Troubie JV totals 14 runs on 21 hits

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Junior left fielder Kylee Garrett hit 3-for-3 with three runs batted in and was one of four players with extra-base hits in St. Francis' five-inning 15-2 win at River City during the varsity half of a non-league softball doubleheader Friday.

The Troubadours have now won three straight to improve to 3-1 for the year. Meanwhile, the St. Francis junior varsity posted an equally dominating 14-3 win over the Raiders, totaling 21 hits in the process.

Garrett and designated player Alex Garcia (2-for-4) were the only Troubies with multi-hit games, as the 14 safeties were spread across 11 different players. Senior Taylor Trafican posted a pinch-hit triple in the fifth, while pitcher Kinsley Imm also had a three-bagger in support of her four innings in the circle.

St. Francis scored at least one run in each frame, including three in the second and fourth plus seven in the fifth. Garrett's bases-loaded double plated all three in the second inning to give her a team a 4-1 lead. Imm's triple in the fourth brought in Francesca Guerrera and Garcia for the seventh and eighth runs, setting the board at 8-2.

The fifth featured six Troubie hits, including a pinch-hit single by Sorina Pometta, a two-run double from Garcia and Trafican's two-run triple to right. Alexis McFarland and Kasey McAtee added RBI hits. McAtee reached twice in the fifth: she pinch hit for Claire Krotine and was hit by a 1-1 pitch, then came up again for her single to right.

Kiley Shea relieved Imm in the fifth, fanning three in the process and invoking the 10-run rule with her final punchout.

Like their varsity sisters, the SF jayvees rolled past the Raiders with offensive contributions from up and down the lineup, but in more concentrated fashion: two runs in the first, three in the second, then eight in the sixth. Oddly, the 10-run rule was not in effect, allowing the Troubies to add one more run in the seventh.

Jocelyn Villaflor and Julia Nielsen each finished 4-for-5 with three RBIs. Villaflor also stole two bases in the win. Leadoff hitter Ariella Alcantar went 3-for-5 with a double, triple and four runs scored. Juniors Emma Fox and Addison Hutchcract matched Alcantar's 3-for-5, with Fox driving in three runs.

With only eight players available and freshman Imm as the starting pitcher in the varsity game, the St. Francis JV borrowed sophomore Reese Lewis to go the distance in the circle. She responded by scattering six hits and three runs, while striking out nine batters against two walks in the victory.

Both SF teams return to action in a 3:30 road doubleheader at Rocklin on Monday.
