SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis junior Alexa Edwards was the Sac-Joaquin Section winner of the SportStars Magazine "Day in the Life" Voting contest presented by Fantag.
"I think they should vote for me because I represent a great school," said Edwards during the contest. "I would not be where I am today without my school and I want to show people what I do every day at my amazing school."
Edwards garnered 81 percent of the vote (6,837 votes) against Maya Doms, a soccer player from Davis, Noah Blake, a wrestling standout from Del Oro, and Kaiden Bennett from the Folsom football program. Bennett received 13 percent (1,123 votes) to finish second ahead of Dom (4 percent, 339 votes) and Blake (2 percent, 194 votes).
Edwards credits her family including her grandmother in Chicago, friends and classmates at St. Francis and the staff at her former school St. Ignatius that had the students in the computer classes voting for her daily during the contest for her win.
Edwards and her teammates were followed by the SportsStars film crew on Tuesday, November 6 for the "Day in the Life" feature starting in her afternoon classes at St. Francis through the CIF NorCal victory over Valley Christian. She also participated in a sit down interview that will be material for the upcoming magazine feature.
The video will be highlighted on the SportStars website with the feature running in an upcoming issue.
