Volleyball Posts Two Sweeps over Pleasant Grove and Elk Grove

ELK GROVE, Calif. – The St. Francis volleyball team continued its strong play in the Delta League, sweeping Pleasant Grove Thursday 3-0 by scores of 25-7, 25-9, 25-12 to remain undefeated.

"It felt good to get the win tonight and we got a lot of work in running certain plays," said Lara Chappuie.

St. Francis (25-3) opened the match with a 10-0 run and cruised to a 25-7 first set victory to set the tone for the match.

"We felt really confident after the first set because we had a bad warmup," said Chappuie. "We needed the energy to get in the game."

Elk Grove took a 6-2 lead in the second but the Troubadours righted the ship to outscore the Thundering Herd 23-6 the rest of the set.

"We felt the pressure of the crowd on the other side," said Chappuie. "It was getting in our heads but we pulled it out."

The Troubadours closed out the match 25-12 in the third to remain undefeated at 9-0 in league play, holding a two game lead over Pleasant Grove after the 3-0 win on Tuesday over the Eagles.

Junior Jesiree Moral and Suzanne Salazar had big serving nights, combining for 35 points on serve. Junior Alexa Edwards and senior Kathryn Kramer had double-digit kills and Sam Chavez added 10 digs.  Moral led the team with 25 assists.

St. Francis returns home on Tuesday against Sheldon for Camp Reunion Night.

"It will feel really nice to not have to drive so far and be in our home gym after a long time," said Chappuie.

Head Coach Alynn Wright, who is celebrating her 30th season with St. Francis, will be recognized Tuesday for her longtime tenure with the program.
