Volleyball Advances with Section Win over Kennedy

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Madie Bachelor had a career-high tying eight kills to lead St. Francis to a 3-0 win over Kennedy in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I playoffs. The Troubies posted 25-7, 25-11, 25-12 set wins to advance to the second round.

"We did really good," said Bachelor, who recorded eight kills for the second time in her career (Franklin, 2018). "We still have some things to work on. Overall, all of our hard work is starting to come together."

St. Francis jumped out to a quick lead as junior Alex Edwards recorded 10 of her match-high 12 kills in a 25-7 first set win.

"Our offense was really good, especially when we ran combo plays," said Bachelor. "It is really fun to see them work."

The Troubadours hit 39 percent with only seven errors and recorded nine aces with Kathryn Kramer, Sam Chavez and Suzanne Salazar each recording two. Jesiree Moral had a double-double with 17 assists and 17 digs, while Kramer added seven kills.

St. Francis, the top seed in the Division I bracket, will play No. 9 seed Foslom on Thursday at 7 p.m. The Bulldogs defeated Modesto 3-0 on Tuesday. Other first-round winners were No. 2 Rocklin, No. 3 Tracy, No. 4 Pitman, No. 5 Pleasant Grove, No. 6 Cosumnes Oaks and No. 8 Oak Ridge.

"We like playing at home," said Bachelor.

Tickets at=re $7 for adults and $5 for students. Lifetime and Sportspasses are not eligible for entrance for postseason games.
