Volleyball’s Wright Selected NFHS 2017-18 California Coach of the Year

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – St. Francis volleyball coach Alynn Wright has been named the 2017-18 California Coach of the Year for Girls Volleyball as selected by the NFHS Coaches Association.

Wright was nominated by the school to represent the Sac-Joaquin Section and chosen by the California Interscholastic Association. The NFHS letter recognizes Wright among those "who are leading their sport, shaping their athletes and contributing in a positive way to their community".

"For the past seven years, I've treasured the opportunity to witness a master coach at work in Alynn Wright," said Athletics Director Mark McGreevy.  "Every season presents different challenges, different athletes with different sets of abilities and personalities.  What has remained consistent has been Alynn's dedication to the four pillars of St. Francis and her remarkable ability to maximize the physical, mental, and spiritual growth of her players in the pursuit of becoming the best volleyball team they can be."

Wright led St. Francis (34-9 overall) to the CIF Northern California Regionals in 2017 before losing to eventual state champion Archbishop Mitty in the Open bracket. The Troubadours were placed in the Open Bracket for the first time in school history as one of the top eight programs in the region. St. Francis also advanced to the Sac-Joaquin Section finals before losing to eventual section champion Turlock. She was named the Delta League Coach of the Year after leading the Troubadours to the league title for the 21st time in her career.

"Year in and year out, Alynn has proved nothing short of a blessing to our program and our school," said McGreevy. "We join the NFHS in recognizing what we've known for a long time now...that the Troubadours have the best high school volleyball coach in California. Congrats coach, we're proud of you!"

Wright led the program to additional success in 2018 in her 30th year at the helm of the program. The program will celebrate their season on Friday with their annual team banquet.
