ROCKLIN, Calif. – Senior Lucie Pickering Pick placed 54th as the top St. Francis finisher in the varsity four-kilometer race while sophomore Sunny Schranz set a meet record and led five Troubadours among the top eight in the frosh-soph race, highlighting the season-opening Oakmont Invitational at Johnson-Springview Park Saturday morning.

Pickering Pick crossed in 15 minutes, 52.8 seconds, three spots ahead of teammate Chloe Harrison (16:00.5) and seven in front of Kyra Lueras (16:08.3). Zoe Smith and Jordan Brace rounded out the SF scoring in 101st and 102nd, respectively, with Ashley Sexauer (134th) and MacKenzie Olmstead (165th) displacing. The Troubies placed ninth in the varsity team standings at 312, just one behind Golden Valley and a single tick ahead of Sierra.

An hour later, St. Francis dominated the frosh-soph race with 20 team points, well ahead of second-place Granite Bay (58) and third-place Whitney (92). Schranz won the event with a meet record of 14:55.6, with Troubie freshman Miya Menza coming home at 15:00.6 for the runner-up finish. Sophia Kadel (15:29.1) and Halle Welch (15:29.6) effectively came through the chute together in fourth and fifth, respectively. Mia Hollar closed the scoring in eighth (15:51.9), with Sophia Hernandez taking 10th (15:57.9). In fact, all five of the frosh-soph scorers had faster times than St. Francis' top varsity finisher.

Only Whitney's Kaylee Smith in third and a pair of Granite Bay runners in sixth and seventh prevented the Troubies from the perfect score of 15. In fact, SF had 11 total runners among the top 20 medalists in the frosh-soph, as Lily Fowler (16th), Emilia Ryan (17th), Lydia Stralen (18th), Morgan Bertran (18th) and Emily Colonnello (20th) finished as a second pack.

Three Troubies entered the junior varsity finale, with Olivia Charles leading that trio with a 20:05.9.

St. Francis cross country returns to Rocklin in a week to compete at the Soiree at SWRA Distance Festival, held at the Sunset Whitney Recreation Area. This will serve as a course preview for the Sierra Foothill League center meet on September 18.
