  • Joaquin earns section scholar-athlete honor

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior cross country and track & field distance runner Cate Joaquin was selected as the Sac-Joaquin Section recipient for the 2022 CIF Scholar-Athlete of the Year award as the state governing body rolled out its year-end accolades in May.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Tatiana Cornejo captured Athlete of the Year for cross country, while first-year varsity mentors Melanie Cleland and Marisa Kolokotronis each earned Coach of the Year honors for cross country and water polo, respectively, as the Delta League rolled out its complete list of year-end honors for fall sports. In all, a total of 19 Troubadour athletes captured All-Delta League accolades in the school’s five Delta League fall sports.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Tatiana Cornejo, junior Paige Quigley and sophomore Emma Dobson were announced as the Most Outstanding athletes for the varsity, junior varsity and frosh-soph teams, respectively, as head coach Melanie Cleland honored her top performers at the St. Francis High cross country year-end awards banquet Wednesday night.

    FRESNO, Calif. — Senior Tatiana Cornejo placed fifth overall and tops among her St. Francis teammates, leading the Troubadours to an eighth-place finish in the girls’ Division II 5-kilometer race at the CIF State Cross Country Championships, held at Woodward Park Saturday.

    FOLSOM, Calif. - Seniors Cate Joaquin and Tatiana Cornejo finished third and fourth, respectively, leading St. Francis to a second-place finish and one of the three team berths to the state championship, in the Division II girls' 5-kilometer race at the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section cross country championships at Willow Hill Reservoir Community Park Saturday.

    A total of 12 St. Francis High students committed to compete in eight different sports were recognized during the college preparatory school’s semi-annual National Letter of Intent and College Commitment ceremony, held in the main gymnasium Wednesday morning.

    ANGELS CAMP, Calif. - Senior Tatiana Cornejo placed second overall in the Div. II girls varsity race at 18:14.2, leading St. Francis High to a second-place team showing, while Ryann Strawn and Emma Dobson won the JV and frosh-sops races, respectively, at the CIF Sac-Joaquin subsection cross country championship at Frogtown Saturday.

    ROCKLIN, Calif. — Senior Tatiana Cornejo won the individual title with a time of 17 minutes, 53.8 seconds, while fellow senior Cate Joaquin finished close behind in second place to lead a 1-2-3-4-5 scoring sweep and a St. Francis team banner at the Delta League cross country championships held at William Jessup University Saturday morning.

    RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif. — Senior Cate Joaquin finished second overall with a time of 10 minutes 49.48 seconds, while senior Claire Silva added a ninth-place showing to lead St. Francis High School to second place at the Hoka Invitational cross country meet at Cordova High School Saturday.
