Strawn, Dobson notch race wins at subsections

ANGELS CAMP, Calif. - Senior Tatiana Cornejo placed second overall in the Div. II girls varsity race at 18:14.2, leading St. Francis High to a second-place team showing, while Ryann Strawn and Emma Dobson won the JV and frosh-sops races, respectively, at the CIF Sac-Joaquin subsection cross country championship at Frogtown Saturday.

With Cornejo at the top of the scoring, the Troubadours notched 76 team points, behind only Granite Bay's 55-point total. Daphne Witherell, Grace Dunham, Claire Silva, Kelsey Sutch and Kayla Towne crossed in succession in 22nd through 26th place.

Meanwhile, the Troubadour trio of Strawn, Paige Quigley and Allison Williams led a 1-2-3 trifecta atop the JV Division 1-2 race, boosting SFHS to a dominating 17-point total. Jill Heskett and McKenna McKrell placed fifth and sixth in that event to round out the near-perfect scoring total.

Finally, Dobson posted her second individual win in as many weeks, as her time of 13:54.5 was more than 20 seconds faster than any other competitor in the Division 2 frosh-sops race. Magdalena Becerril and Carly Hall crossed in seventh and eighth place, respectively, helping SFHS to a second-place team score of 45 points – just one tick behind Vacaville.

St. Francis now heads to the Sac-Joaquin Section championship, held at Willow Hill in Folsom on November 13. The Troubies seek their 14th total SJS banner and their fifth consecutive. A total of 10 varsity teams and six from each of the JV and frosh-soph events move on to the section meet.
