Water polo places seventh in Napa

NAPA, Calif. – St. Francis varsity water polo split its Saturday schedule at the Julian Szmidt Memorial Tournament, falling to Northgate by a 7-3 final before dispatching area rival Christian Brothers, 11-1, in the seventh-place game.

The Troubies move to 10-9 for the year. No individual stats were available at press time.

The Szmidt tourney is named in memory of a former Napa High and UC Davis standout who later coached aquatics in the Napa area for more than four decades. St. Francis placed seventh among the 12-team Gold bracket, while Rodriguez beat McClatchy to win the six-team Burgundy bracket.

The Troubadours head into their regular-season finale at Davis. The JV will play as part of a doubleheader with Jesuit at Arroyo Park at 5 p.m., while the SF varsity will join the Marauders against the Blue Devils at UC Davis' Schaal Aquatics Center at 8 p.m.

NOTE: Parking is enforced on the UC Davis campus until 10 p.m. Visitor Parking Lot 56, adjacent to Schaal and UC Davis Health Stadium, offers hourly parking through a kiosk at that lot. This allows visitors to park for shorter durations, as opposed to the daily rate offered through the ParkMobile app. More information is available at https://taps.ucdavis.edu/news/purchase-hourly-parking-through-kiosks.
