Senior Alana Reyna to Run at Sonoma State

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis senior runner Alana Reyna will attend Sonoma State University and run for the Seawolves cross country and track and field programs.

"I picked Sonoma because it instantly was a good connection when I visited and met with the coach and team," said Reyna. "I think I will be very comfortable and a good fit for me."

Sonoma State University is an NCAA Division II member and part of the California Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA). The Seawolves reached the NCAA West Regional last fall, finishing 28th overall.

"I fell in love with the school," said Reyna, who plans to major in computer science. "It is not too big or small and it is near home if I want to visit my family."

Reyna competed in 39 career races and made three CIF State Championship appearances, crossing a personal-best 100th in the 2017 state finals. She helped the program win two Sac-Joaquin Section champions and the 2017 Delta League title.

"My favorite moments on the cross country team, crossing the finish line at state," said Reyna. "It felt amazing especially this year with all the four years led to this."

"Alana's decision to attend Sonoma State has made us proud!" said Head Cross Country Coach Aaron Rios. "Academically and athletically she has proven to be a solid leader here at St. Francis. She served as team captain for 3 years and helped our team capture league title, section championships and top 10 finish at the CIF state meet; however, her greatest contribution to our team has been helping her teammates be the best they can be. Her strong values and character will no doubt help her at the next level."

Reyna served as a team captain this season along with her senior teammates.

"It was pretty cool," said Reyna of being captain. "It was new because you have to put your feelings aside and do what is best for the team. You have to be on top of it and help everyone get to where they want to go."

Overall, she looks back on a time in the Troubie jersey with pride.

"It has been a roller coaster but it has changed my life for the better," said Reyna. "It has taught me a lot and I have met some amazing people and great friends. The community here is like nothing else."

Reyna has three weeks left before the championship season starts with the Delta League meet on May 4.

"I am looking forward to finishing off the year good and remember all the good times we had," said Reyna. "I want to enjoy the last moments I have here at St. Francis."

Reyna will join eight classmates on Wednesday at the St. Francis Signing Day celebration at 8:30 a.m.
