GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Seniors Abigail Benavidez and Miranda Ferguson each scored twice but St. Francis saw its 3-1 halftime lead slip away to a 10-4 loss against Sierra Foothill League leader Granite Bay in the varsity portion of a prep water polo quadrupleheader Monday night.
The Troubadours slip to 14-7 for the season and 5-3 in SFL play. The Grizzlies improve to 17-3 overall and 7-1 in league, maintaining a share of first place with Davis. St. Francis holds steady in third place in the standings, one game ahead of Rocklin.
Benavidez also had two drawn exclusions and a field block. Senior Piper Brostrom chipped in three assists and a steal. Goalkeeper Sophia Santsche-Chavez finished with nine saves with the 10 goals allowed.
Ferguson had both of her goals in the first half, helping the Troubies hold the two-goal halftime edge. However, GB piled on four goals in the third quarter and five more in the fourth, while SF shot just 1-for-14 after the break.
The varsity loss followed a 14-2 setback for the Troubadours' junior varsity. Ava Jack and Savannah Hamilton each scored a goal, while freshman goalkeeper Sasha Michon posted a career-high nine saves.
St. Francis returns home to host Whitney on Wednesday. Varsity plays at approximately 7 p.m. with JV following at 8 p.m., with the actual start depending on the Jesuit-Whitney games to start the evening.
SCHEDULE NOTE: SF's October 29 home finale with Bella Vista has been removed from the schedule due to the Broncos canceling the remainder of their season... This also means the Troubadours will honor their senior class on Monday, Oct. 21 during the SFL set against Del Oro.
