ROCKLIN, Calif. – Junior libero Malia Fat broke double digits on floor defense for a third straight match with a team-leading 14 digs, while Hailey Sutton, Layla Alexander and Sophia Palmeri combined for 17 kills and just five errors between them, leading St. Francis to a 25-12, 25-14, 25-22 sweep of Whitney to close out a Sierra Foothill League girls' volleyball tripleheader Wednesday night.
The Troubadours improve to 11-5 for the season, and even their league mark to 2-2. The Wildcats slip to 7-9 overall while remaining winless at 0-4 in SFL play.
Sutton posted a team-best seven kills, Alexander chipped in six, with Palmeri adding four, each playing two of the three sets. Senior opposite Gabrielle Rowe finished with an errorless 3-for-7 chart on the attack, while Gilly Glikman added a 4-1-13 line. Alexander also served up three of SF's 12 aces, while Sutton joined Fat with double-figure digs with 11.
Furthermore, all 19 healthy Troubies saw action in at least one set. Senior Jessica Dillie had four kills on 11 swings in her lone frame of action, with junior Katie Kramer distributing a team-leading eight assists during her turn running the offense. Gigi Dickerson also stepped into the back row for a set, finishing with two aces, four digs plus a perfect serve-receive chart.
In all, St. Francis hit a solid .215 as a team, finishing with 32 kills and 12 errors on offense.
The Troubies split their sub-varsity outcomes on the night, with the frosh falling in straight sets, 25-17 and 25-20; and junior varsity winning its 13th straight match with a 25-22, 25-19 sweep. No individual statistics are available from the 5:30 matches.
The three St. Francis volleyball squads split up to three different tournaments on Saturday. Varsity competes at Bishop O'Dowd's Dragon Invitational, JV heads south to the 16th Stockton Invitational, while frosh remains in the area by competing in Oak Ridge's Christine Craft Invite.
