FAIR OAKS, Calif. – Freshman Alexandra Wallace, senior Anna Dinh and the doubles tandem of Arden Garcia and Lena Mundhenk each won third-set tiebreakers to help St. Francis come away with a 6-3 win over Del Oro in Sierra Foothill League girls' tennis action at Rollingwood YMCA Thursday.
The Troubadours have now won five of their last six matches to improve to 8-6 overall and 6-6 in the SFL. The Golden Eagles move to 13-5-1 for the year and stay a win ahead of their hosts with a 7-5 league mark.
Wallace overcame a 6-3 loss in the first set to claim a 6-4 win in the second before running away with a 10-3 win in the single-game tiebreaker against Avery Phillips at No. 2 singles. Dinh had the opposite trajectory to a rubber set, beating Rylan Tucker, 6-3, in the first before struggling to a 6-1 loss in the second. Dinh then won, 10-6, in the No. 4 singles tiebreaker.
Garcia and Mundhenk went the distance with DO's Jorja Veach and Estela Vesga at No. 2 doubles. They won the first set, 7-6, with a shutout in the tiebreaker; then lost the second set by a 6-3 final. The Garcia/Mundhenk duo then prevailed by a 10-8 thriller to finish the match.
Meanwhile, Maria McDougall, Tatum Walbeck and Sarah Ramos-Lasso each won in straight sets at Nos. 1, 3 and 6 singles, respectively. McDougall enjoyed the most decisive win at the top of the order, trouncing Ashley Rowland, 6-0, 6-1, to improve to 13-1 individually. It also marks the fifth time she has allowed just one game for a sweep in 2024.
Oddly, Rowland represents McDougall's only loss of the year: a 6-4, 6-3 victory in Loomis back on September 19. For that matter, the team win avenges a 6-3 loss to the Golden Eagles from a month ago.
St. Francis enters the final week of dual play in the SFL, traveling to Oak Ridge on Tuesday then hosting Davis on Thursday. Both matches begin at 4 p.m.
