JV Red soccer spins perfect game at Will C. Wood

VACAVILLE, Calif. – Freshmen Eliza Hurley and Ava Winberry each scored their first prep braces to lead the offense, while the defense held its opponent to no shots, as St. Francis' Red junior varsity blanked Will C. Wood, 7-0, in girls' prep soccer action Wednesday.

The Troubadours youngest squad improves to 2-0, playing just 24 hours after a dominating win at Vista Del Lago.

Sophomore Liv Vasques-Martin assisted on two of the goals while scoring one of her own. Gianna Erdmann and Evelyn McNearney also found the back of the net for SF. However, the most impressive achievement was arguably the soccer equivalent of baseball's perfect game: the Troubie back line held its hosts without a single attempt.

Rose Buffleben and Kaitlen Takeuchi combine for the shutout at goalkeepers, with credit going to Trinito Ito, Abi Robbins and Guinevere O'Brien starting at defenders.

The Troubies' Saturday doubleheader against University (San Francisco) has been canceled due to academic conflicts for the Red Devils. As a result, JV Red instead returns to action on Monday with its home opener against Rio Americano. Game time is 4 p.m. on the campus grass field. JV Gold hosts Ponderosa on Friday at Cristo Rey starting at 7 p.m., with SF varsity's next game being Tuesday's home doubleheader against McClatchy.
