JV Red comes away with win and draw

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Freshman forward Sofia Rabinovitz and sophomore midfielder Alyssa Cheah scored goals in a 2-0 win over the Inderkum High frosh-soph team, then goalkeeper Maggie Buffleben posted nine saves in a 0-0 tie with Chico as St. Francis' JV Red squad wrapped its first day of action at the Inderkum JV Tournament Friday.

The Troubadours remain undefeated at 6-0-1.

Rabinovitz netted her goal early in the contest on a breakaway to put St. Francis on the board. Then in the 58th, forward Angelina Chavez was fouled hard in the middle of the box, sending Cheah to the penalty mark for the shot.

Rabinovitz and Giuliana Del Guerra each fired three shots in the nightcap against the Panthers, while Cheah and Jada Dwyre managed two more, but neither CHS nor SFHS could crack the scoreless tie for the entirety of the 60-minute contest. Due to the constraints of the tournament, no overtimes were played.

Despite the name, all JV games of the Inderkum tourney take place at Natomas High. The Troubies will face the host Nighthawks at 8 a.m. on Saturday morning, then the teams will pair off for placing games in the afternoon based on their respective standings.
