St. Francis captures third Delta League All-Sports title

St. Francis captures third Delta League All-Sports title

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis captured the 2021-22 Delta League All-Sports Championship, bestowed upon the member school with the best overall performance throughout the 10 league sports.

This is the third such title for the Troubadours, who captured the 2017-18 and 2018-19 award. There was no such championship in 2019-20 and 2020-21 due to the COVID-19 pandemic shortening those respective school years.

St. Francis totaled 56.5 points to edge Davis (54). Pleasant Grove finished third with 45 points.

Scoring is determined by the team's final standings in league. Eight points go to first place, six to second, five to third in an 8-6-5-4-3-2-1 system. Points are divided in the event of a tie. How a school's finish is determined varies by sport: some are based on win-loss (e.g. basketball or softball), some from a league championship event (e.g. track, swimming) while others have a multi-faceted system (e.g. golf). Each school's top nine scores are added up to determine a winner.

Overall, the Troubies had eight teams that finished second or better for the season. Cross country and soccer each won Delta League titles. Tennis, water polo, softball, swimming & diving and track & field each finished second, while volleyball tied for second in the league standings.

Lacrosse is the lone St. Francis sport not factored into the All-Sport race, as only two of the traditional league schools – St. Francis and Davis – sponsor the sport. As it were, the Troubies and Blue Devils tied for that league title with 11-1 records.
