Track and Field Wins Delta League Team Title

DAVIS, Calif - The St. Francis track and field team won the Delta League Championships Friday night in Davis.

The varsity 4x100 meter relay team set a new personal record and took second to Sheldon. The team, Reyna Johnson, Chanel Grimes, Serena Shimada, and Izzy Grassel ran a 48.66. The frosh/soph 4x100m took first place after Davis disqualified to score 10 points for St. Francis in 52.66.

St. Francis took top three in long jump. Grassel won Delta League in long jump, she jumped 17-06.25. Sophomore Reyna Johnson placed second to Grassel with 17-04.50 and Kenna DeLemos took third with 17-02.75.

Junior Isabella Fauria won the 1600m in 5:03.56 with freshmen Cate Joaquin (5:04.07) and Tatiana Cornejo (5:10.33) in second and third place.

Fauria said. "It feels really good to qualify for sections, myself and three or four other teammates qualified, so it's really incredible for our team. The race went really well, we ran on Wednesday so we were a little bit tired but we were able to bounce back and we did very well."

Fauria also won the 800m in 2:13.57 and senior Sophie DeBenedetti took third place with 2:18.81 and together scored a total of 16 points for the Troubies.

In the 100m hurdles Johnson won in 14.50 with senior Shimada in second with 15.01, junior Isabella Palchak in fifth place with 15.80 and sophomore Molly Chambers took seventh in 17.14. All four Troubies will move on to section trials.

Shimada is the Delta League Champion in the 300m hurdles with a personal record of 45.86 to score 10 points. She will move onto section trials in both hurdle events.

"I am really excited that I won this event," said Shimada. "I worked really hard to come back after being hurt for seven months last year and I couldn't have asked for a better outcome. It's just the icing on the cake."

Senior Sarah Healey added five points and took fourth place in shot put with 29-00.00.

St. Francis beat Davis 205.50 to 142.50 to take the Delta League Division I title for the first time since 2015.

The Frosh/Soph team placed second to host Davis with the Troubies winning several league individual titles including Emily Castles (1600), Camryn Carter (High Jump), Peyton Carson (400m), Nora Smith (800m), 4x1090m Relay (Lauren Baleria, Simone Sagay, Isabella Mae-Mariazetta, Gabriela McGahan), 4x400m Relay (Abby Palko, Lilly O'Gara, Carson, Claire Silva).

Section Trials will begin on Wednesday May 8th at Tokay High School in Lodi.
