Track and Field Shines at Meet of Champions

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Reyna Johnson broke the school record in the 100m hurdles for the fourth time this season and two Troubadours took individual titles Saturday at the Meet of Champions at American River College on Saturday.

Reyna clocked a 14.46 to finish second behind only Cyvanna Bowen of Edison (13.93), the section leader in the event. Senior Serena Shimada continued her impressive season with a personal-best 14.94 to place seventh in the final. Shimada ran a personal-best 46.43 in the open 300m hurdles earlier in the day.

Freshman Cate Joaquin won the 1600 meters in 5:01.03 with teammates junior Haley Silva (5:08.25) and Tatiana Cornejo (5:11.56) placing ninth and 11th, respectively. Junior Isabella Fauria won the 800 meters in a personal-best 2:13.89. In the high jump, Isabella Palchak was eighth in the at 5-1.

Joaquin doubled in the Invitational 3200m with Cornejo, placing third while Cornejo was 18th.

Senior Isabelle Grassel was 14th in the open long jump (15-7) and 17th in the 100 meters (12.63). Freshman Emily Castles placed eighth in the Open 3200m (11:53.35), while junior Emma Hollenbach was 13th (5:51.04) in the Open 1600m.
