Basketball Falls Despite Late Comeback to Davis 54-48

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Despite trailing by 17 at the half, the St. Francis varsity basketball team rallied in the second half before falling to rival Davis 54-48 in Delta League game.

St. Francis (8-11, 2-4) scored the opening basket before the Blue Devils went on a 17-2 run over the first and second periods, eventually building a 27-10 halftime lead. Senior Nika Bagatelos was the only player with more than one basket as the Troubies struggled to find offense.

"We knew we had to play better as a team," said sophomore Mia Fleming-Mullins, whose half-court three-pointer to end the third was a spark for the team. "We started off really rough and we had to come back and do better. We played better as a team in the second half."

St. Francis rallied with a 25-point third quarter behind Fleming-Mullins, who scored 13 of her 14 points in the quarter. The Troubies also got threes from Mackenzie Le and Jasmine Lee.

The Davis (9-12, 4-2) held a 38-35 after three quarters and was able to keep the Troubadours from tying or taking a lead, eventually pushing the lead back to double digits in the final period before the final margin of six.

"We were all nervous playing in a rival game," said Fleming-Mullins. "We just could not find the basket. We calmed down in the second half, got our energy up and played better as a team. It was not enough to get the win."

Fleming-Mullins finished with a team-best 14 points and team-best 12 rebounds. Bagatelos (11) and Jasmine Lee (10) both scored in double figures with Mackenzie Le chipping in six points. Senior Lauren Pank had a team-best five assists and Ally Gage added eight rebounds.
