PHOENIX, Ariz. – The St. Francis varsity basketball team will open the 22nd Annual Nike Tournament of Champions in Phoenix, Ariz., against the Village School (Texas) at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec 19 at Mesquite High School. They will face the winner/loser of the Thunder Basin (Wyo.) and La Jolla (Calif.) Country Day school matchup on Thursday.
The Troubadours (4-3) are appearing in the Nike Tournament of Champions for the 13th time in school history. They are in the DAN WILEY Bracket with schools including Basha (Ariz.), Bradshaw Christian (Calif.), Colonial (Fla.) and Red Mountain (Ariz.). The top of the DAN WILEY bracket includes Springfield (Ore.), Boulder Creek (Ariz.), Campbell (Ga.), Mountain Vista (Colo.), Carver (Ala.) and St. Anthony (Calif.).
The Nike Tournament of Champions is the third tournament of the season for St. Francis, who played in the Lady Vike Tournament in Stockton and the Roseville Elite Showcase last weekend. The Troubadours will also play in the Westcoast Jamboree Dec. 27-29.
The Nike Tournament of Champions is universally considered the greatest high school basketball event in the world. Since its inception it has hosted more than 40,0000 athletes from all 50 states, Australia and every Canadian province; it has produced no less than 233 State Champions and 17 of the last 20 consensus National Champions.
The Troubadours will play Atwater at 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 27 in the first round of the WCJ with games played at St. Patrick St. Vincent in Vallejo.
