Basketball Finishes Fourth at West Coast Jamboree Bracket, Preps for Delta League

VALLEJO, Calif. – The St. Francis basketball team lost 68-48 to Vanden in the West Coast Jamboree Opal Division bracket to finish fourth, going 1-2 on the weekend. The Troubadours also defeated Atwater in the bracket opener and lost by seven to host St. Vincent-St. Patrick in the semifinals. All three teams were ranked among the state's Top 50 by Maxpreps entering the weekend.

"We were competitive with all the teams we played and I am very proud of the girls," said Head coach Heather Volek Brownholtz. "We have experienced all the adversity that league play will present this season. The girls are ready for the main task at hand."

The Vikings (10-4) opened with a 15-6 advantage in the first quarter as the Troubies got out of the gate slowly. SF out-scored Vanden 12-10 in the second but the Vikings came out of the locker room with 23 points in the third and 20 in the fourth to seal the victory.

Sophomore Mackenzie Le led the team in scoring with nine points off the bench. Megan Austin, Nicole Rivera and Mia Fleming-Mullins each scored six points in the game. Fleming was named the team's All-Tournament selection.

"Over the course of the Tournament of Champions and the West Coast Jamboree, Mia has been elevating her game," said Brownholtz. "She is understanding how to work within this team as a junior."

She had 12 points in the opening 56-48 win over Atwater and had 19 points with four rebounds and four assists in the loss to SVSP. Senior Nika Bagatelos had an 18-point performance against Atwater and Lauren Pank had 11 assists in the win on Thursday.

"We are looking forward to league play," said Brownholtz. "We have not taken an easy road and have played an extremely difficult schedule on purpose. We have not shied away from the great talent in California and I think we are ready for our league."

St. Francis (7-7) opens Delta League play next Friday against Cosumnes Oaks at home at 7 p.m.
