Five Troubies claim seven All-America nods

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A group of five St. Francis swimmers claimed a total of seven awards as the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association announced its 2021-22 All-America awards.

The top 100 finishers in each of the 12 high school swim events earn NISCA accolades. Junior Ava Chavez captured five such honors, ranking 39th in the 200-yard freestyle (1:48.37), 44th in the 500 free (4:52.04) and 57th in the 100 butterfly (54.56); plus taking part in the Troubadours' 200 free relay (64th, 1:35.81) and 400 free relay (37th, 3:26.26).

Freshman Erica Jaffe also picked up her shares of the two free relays while ranking 48th in the 100 backstroke (54.65) and 77th in the 200 individual medley (2:02.37).

Junior Maddy Ching also won All-America nods for each freestyle relay, while junior LK Holliday and sophomore Grace Mering swam legs of the 200 and 400 free relays, respectively.

St. Francis finished second at the Sac-Joaquin Section championships, then went on to place a program-best eighth at the CIF state meet under first-year head coach Brian Nabeta, who garnered Delta League Coach of the Year distinction. The Troubies also set 10 school records, including each of the seven NISCA All-America times.
