CONCORD, Calif. – Junior Ava Chavez won two freestyle events and took part in a pair of first-place relays, as St. Francis outmatched Carondelet, 177-134, in a high school swimming dual meet at De La Salle High School Wednesday afternoon.

Chavez won the 50 free at 24.49, then dominated the 500 free with a 5:06.83, almost 30 seconds faster than teammate and runner-up Kelly Wilson (5:36.19). She also led off the 200 free relay (1:41.59) and anchored the meet finale, the 400 free relay (3:36.83).

Freshman Erica Jaffe also won two varsity events, leading a first-through-fourth Troubadour sweep in the 200-yard individual medley with a 2:09.03. She followed with a victorious 57.83 in the 100 backstroke, more than two seconds faster than her nearest competitor. Jaffe also led off SFHS' winning 400 free relay. 

Maddy Ching also collected first-place points in the 200 free (1:57.11) and swam the second leg of the 400 free relay.

Among the junior varsity events, the Troubadours outdueled their Cougar hosts by a 165-152 final. Ella Ching won both the 200 IM (2:26.51) and 100 free (59.93), while the SFHS jayvees also gathered first-place points from Teaghan Brostrom (500 free), Ashlyn Brock (200 free), Lexie DeAngelis (100 back) and Kennedy Seitz (100 breast). The Troubies also won the 200 medley relay and 400 free relay on the JV side.

Wednesday's meet not only served as a rare St. Francis meet outside the Sacramento area, but it represented a reunion for Troubie head coach Brian Nabeta and Cougar mentor Roque Santos. Both coaches were teammates as collegians with the Cal Golden Bears.

St. Francis returns to action with its regular-season finale against Sheldon on Friday. Meet time is 3:30 p.m. at Jesuit High. The team will honor its senior class at that meet, while the SF Booster Club will host the annual Booster-Q.
