CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Junior Ava Chavez and freshman Erica Jaffe each won individual events and took part in a winning 400-yard freestyle relay, highlighting St. Francis in a Delta League swimming dual meet against Davis Tuesday at Jesuit Aquatic Center.
The visiting Blue Devils lead the meet by a score of 109-61, with the one-meter diving yet to be included in the scoring. The divers will conclude the meet at Capital Divers on Wednesday afternoon.
Chavez touched the wall in the 200 free in one minute, 52.79 seconds; then added a winning 100 butterfly time of 55.24. Jaffe added nine first-place points in the 100 backstroke with a clocking of 57.69. The girls' portion of the meet concluded with the Troubadours capturing the 400 free relay at 3:34.97. Chavez, Maddy Ching, Victoria Cao and Jaffe combined for the win.
St. Francis also scored a win in the junior varsity 200 free relay, with Piper Brostrom, Ashlyn Brock, Dylan Johnson and Alexis DeAngelis compiling a winning 1:51.43, just 0.57 ahead of the Davis 'A' relay.
Ching and Cao also added some scoring punch in the 50 free, finishing second (25.14) and fourth (25.40); while Ching supported Chavez' win in the 100 fly with her own third-place showing of 57.45. Furthermore, the Chavez-Ching-Cao-Jaffe foursome provided second-place relay scoring int he 200 free relay, touching in 1:39.14.
The SFHS swimmers return to action in eight days, hosting Elk Grove for continued Delta League dual competition on March 23.
