ELK GROVE, Calif. — Freshman Erica Jaffe won the 100-yard freestyle and 100 backstroke, while junior Ava Chavez claimed the 200 free and 100 butterfly, leading St. Francis to a dominating 137-29 win over Franklin in a Delta League dual meet at Wackford Aquatic Complex Wednesday afternoon.
The meet was originally scheduled for Jesuit High but moved to Elk Grove due to a scheduling error.
Additionally, Franklin reduced the meet to a varsity-only event and removed the 500 freestyle to fit the limited window of availability at the Wackford venue.
The Troubadours won every event and claimed the top two places in all but two races. Jaffe touched home in the 100 free in 53.22 seconds, then clocked in at 57.70 in the 100 back. She was the only swimmer on either team to finish in under a minute during that race. Chavez enjoyed a similar feat with her winning times of 1:52.06 in the 200 free and 56.19 in the 100 fly. Both Jaffe and Chavez took part in the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays.
Sophomore Grace Mering (200 individual medley), freshman Marissa Recio (100 breaststroke) and senior Victoria Cao (50 free) also won events. Diver Sinclair Yadao's second-place 185.45 in Monday's meet at Capital Divers also counted as first-place points in Wednesday's swim dual.
St. Francis returns to action at its home pool of Jesuit Aquatic Center on Friday against Pleasant Grove. Meet time is 2 p.m.
