Troubies present year-end swim awards

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Head coach Brian Nabeta and assistant coaches Amaya Barnes and Derek Choy joined the St. Francis varsity and junior varsity swim teams for an after-school barbecue to celebrate their outstanding 2022 season Monday afternoon.

The awards celebration also provided a chance to officially present the official Delta League patches, as all event winners at the league championship meet are considered first-team honorees; plus medals for the California Catholic Challenge and Sac-Joaquin Section meets. Finally, Nabeta, Barnes and Choy presented team awards for each of the JV and varsity programs.

The Troubadours enjoyed one of their best seasons to date: a runner-up finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section meet, plus a program-best eighth at the sixth-annual CIF state championship. This was the first season at the SFHS helm for Nabeta, a local legend in the swim community who assumed the head coach position on an interim basis.

Special thanks to the SFHS Booster Club and volunteers for providing the food and working the grill: Gilles Laborde Lagrave, Heather Garcia, Hope Gawlick and Robert Vela.
