Jayvees place third at Granite Bay Jamboree

GRANITE BAY, Calif. – Sophomore center Abigail Benavidez scored a game-high four goals to lift St. Francis to a 7-6 sudden victory over Christian Brothers in the third-place game of the Granite Bay JV Jamboree girls' water polo tournament.

The Troubadours went 2-1 for the tourney, and moved to 4-5 for the season.

Havana Sperber, Miranda Ferguson and Piper Brostrom each added one in the win over the Falcons. Ferguson also had three assists and a pair of steals. Holland Sperber recorded six saves.

Ferguson performed as both a field player and goalkeeper for the day, filling in for the younger Sperber sister in Saturday's early game against host Granite Bay. She posted saves in a 14-7 loss to the Grizzlies, largely keeping the Troubies with a three-goal margin for most of the contest. Benavidez had six of those seven goals, with Addison Hutchcraft netting the seventh.

St. Francis advanced to the top of the bracket after wins against St. Mary's and Rocklin in Friday's portion of the tourney. They return to action on Wednesday for a road game at Bella Vista on Wednesday.
