EL DORADO HILLS, Calif. – Junior Holland Sperber scored the equalizer and senior Sofia Rabinovitz hit the go-ahead as St. Francis erased an early deficit to snare a 2-1 win over Oak Ridge in the varsity portion of another rain-soaked Sierra Foothill League girls' soccer tripleheader Thursday night.
The Troubadours win their third straight, improving to 12-5-4 for the year with a 6-5-2 league record. The Trojans even their overall record to 6-6-3, 4-6-3 in SFL play.
Furthermore, St. Francis moves into fourth place in the league standings with 20 total points. Del Oro continues to lead the SFL with 28 (8-1-4), Rocklin sits second with 25 (7-2-4) with Davis in third with 22 (6-3-4). The Blue Devils blanked the Thunder, 1-0, during Thursday's action.
Oak Ridge took the initial 1-0 lead just eight minutes into the contest on a rebound and putback. That held up through halftime and almost 23 minutes into the second half before Marissa Ow assisted Sperber on a goal to even the score at 1-1. Then in the 71st, Blough set up Rabinovitz for the game-winner.
The Troubies' win also extended an undefeated streak against the Trojans to 11 games, dating back to a 1-0 OR win in 2012, when both schools were members of the Delta River League.
St. Francis' JV Gold team opened the tripleheader with a 7-0 victory, with sophomore Emma Kryski leading the way with two goals and an assist. Freshmen Monet Zauner and Azaria Agbodike each added a goal and assist for three total points, Anna George and Mariko Palmieri earned two assists apiece, while Brynn Baker, Tallas Schaedler and Liv Vasques-Martin each netted goals. JV Red lost in a 4-0 shutout against the Trojans in the nightcap, but no details are available from the game.
All three squads wrap up the regular season at Davis on Monday. Red begins the night at 3:30 p.m., varsity follows at 5:30, with Gold playing the nightcap at 7:15.
