Levin Steps Down at St. Francis Swimming Coach

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis Swimming Coach Richard Levin has decided to step down as the head coach after eight seasons.

"I love St Francis," said Levin. "I have enjoyed my 8 seasons as the coach of the St Francis Troubadours! I have been blessed with the opportunity to coach some amazing athletes and work with an amazing athletic support staff. I want to give a special thanks to Mark McGreevy, Steve Shaff, and Kelly Ketchum, it has been a joy to work with you and I appreciate all that you dedicate to St Francis. St Francis has been an integral stop on my journey to be an educator. I am excited to share that I will be starting a master's in education program at University of San Francisco in August. My highlight of coaching at St Francis is first and foremost the athletes, we have some amazing young women at St Francis which was only reinforced for me while attending a Kairos as an adult leader.  St Francis will continue to be a very special place to my family. I will continue to cheer for the troubies on and off the pool deck, and I am excited to see what the future holds! See you on deck!

Levin, who is the Athletic Director and on the faculty at Sacred Heart, has coached the Troubadours since 2013. He led the Troubies to a seventh-place finish at the Sac-Joaquin Section meet this season and has helped SF to seven top-seven finishes at the section championships highlighted by a fourth-place finish in 2016. The Troubadours also won back-to-back titles in the Sac-Joaquin Section Frosh/Soph division in 2016 and 2017.

"On behalf of St. Francis and the Troubadour Swim family, I want to thank Coach Levin for his extraordinary leadership and guidance of our largest sports program over the past seven years," said Athletic Director Mark McGreevy.  "With his signature combination of holistic care for his athletes and expertise in the sport, he has inspired countless Troubies to perform at their best no matter what level of ability while preparing them for life outside the pool.  Characteristic of his all-in approach, he also served as an adult leader in our Kairos senior retreat program.  We wish him all the best as he devotes more time to his beautiful family and pursues an advanced degree.  He will always have a home at SF and will be greatly missed."

Levin plans to spend more time with his wife Sarah and their three children. He will also be pursuing his Master's degree.

Levin also led the Troubies to three Delta League titles (2013-15) while mentoring several swimmers to collegiate careers including Emily Bartylla (Occidental), Erin Crooks (Trinity), Maddison Johnson (TCU), Kristen Lance (LMU), AnnClaire McArt (Dartmouth), Katie McIntee (San Jose State), Chloe Mitchell (Fordham), Emily Peters (Cal Poly), McKenna Peterson (St. Catherine) and Tatum Roepke (CS-East Bay).
