Swimming Splits Delta League Meet with Davis and Franklin

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – The St. Francis swimming and diving team split a Delta League dual meet with Davis and Franklin on Wednesday. The Troubadours honored their 21 seniors prior to the meet.

"Senior Day is always a lovely day because it is a great way to send off our seniors," said Head Coach Richard Levin. "It is a way to recognize them at the last dual meet of the year. Hannah Parulan is without a doubt the senior leader. When she went through the senior ceremony, the whole team screamed for her. It was good to see."

Parulan was part of the second-place 200-yard medley relay (Jaclynn Burgess, Emma Peters, Victoria Cao) and was the top finisher for the team in fifth in the 200y individual medley (2:17.01) and third in the 50y freestyle (25.99).

"It is crazy," said Parulan. "I remember being a tiny little freshman on senior night and thinking about what my senior night was going to be like. Now that it is here it is surreal. We have a lot of senior pride so I am excited to carry that out over the final weeks."

She finished the meet with the 400y freestyle relay with juniors Chloe Beebout and Peters and freshman Cao, placing third in 4:22.08.

Peters won the 200y freestyle in 2:00.59 and placed fourth in the 100y freestyle (56.90). Beebout was third in the 500y freestyle in 5:34.67. Cao was second in both the 100y freestyle (55.31) and 100y breaststroke (1:11.11). Sophomore Maria Corvacho Marrago was the top finisher in the 100y backstroke in 1:06.13.

St. Francis defeated Franklin (111-56) head-to-head on Wednesday but fell to defending league and section champion Davis (107-63).

"Swimming against Davis as the defending section champion is always a tough test," said Levin. "They are tough competition in the league and they showed us why today. We have our work cut out for us coming into the league championships in April. We are looking better than we have in the past. It is going to be a tight, close meet so it is going to be fun."

The St. Francis Frosh/Soph team defeated both Davis (70-69) and Franklin (102-28).

Lauren Jones won the 100y butterfly in 1:03.82 and 100y freestyle in 59.70 and contributed on the winning 200y freestyle relay with Bella Austin, Jenna Pimenta and Ashley Magley. Taja Suruki was second in the 200y freestyle (2:18.22), while Pimenta touched third in the 50y freestyle (27.19). Lizzy Gilhooly led the team in the 100y backstroke in 1:14.44 to place third, while pimento was second in 100y breaststroke in 1:20.11.

St. Francis competes in the California Catholic Schools meet on Saturday at Sacred Heart in San Francisco before finishing the league schedule at Cosumnes Oaks on April 4.
