LODI, Calif. – Junior Emma Peters and freshman Victoria Cao qualified for "A" finals at the Sac-Joaquin Section Swimming and Diving Trials held Thursday at Tokay High School.
"We had some ups and down like every meet," said Head Coach Richard Levin. "Our bright spots were our team leaders. Emma Peters went 1:55 in the 300 meters. It is a tough race and she is in the mix. Our freshman Victoria Cao dropped two seconds in the 200 free and our 400 free relay did great."
Peters had the best finish. Touching sixth in the 200y freestyle in 1:55.07 to earn a spot in the finals. She also made the "B" final in the 100y butterfly after placing 13th (58.76).
"They were not exactly where I wanted but they got me into finals and that is all that matters at this point," said Peters. "At Sections, it is not about yourself and times but scoring points for the team and beating the person next to you."
Cao placed seventh in the 100 free (53.36) and 14th in the 100y breaststroke (1:07.55) to earn swims on Saturday.
Senior Hannah Parulan earned a final swim in the 200y individual medley. Maria Corvacho Marrugo swam a personal-best to reach the final in the 100y back, breaking a minute for the first time (59.71).
The varsity relays were led by the 400y freestyle relay that placed fourth with the team of Meredith Garcia, Cao, Peters and Hannah Parulan. The 200y medley relay was fourth with Parulan, Jenna Pimenta, Lauren Jones and Elin Perry, while the 200y free relay was ninth with Maria Corvacho Marrugo, Laura Freeworth, Garcia and Chloe Beebout.
Swimming starts on Saturday at 10 a.m.
