Swimming Posts Three Wins in Delta League Meet

CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Freshman Victoria Cao won two individual events and anchored the winning 200-yard medley relay to lead the St. Francis swimming and diving team to victories over Cosumnes Oaks, Elk Grove and Sheldon.

Senior Hannah Parulan, juniors Jaclynn Burgess and Emma Peters and Cao won the opening IM relay, edging Country Day 1:55.41 to 1:56.26.

"We were behind up until the last 50 and freshman Victoria Cao really killed it and got us first place," said Burgess.

Cao also won the 50y freestyle in a blistering 25.41 and took the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:10.13. In addition to the IM relay, she helped the 400-yard free relay win in 3:57.45 with teammates Burgess, junior Kendall Houck and junior Chloe Beebout.

"The dual meets have been good and the teammates have been cheering each other on," said sophomore Maddie Hoppa. "It has been overall a good experience."

Hoppa was the top finisher for the Troubadours in the 100y backstroke, finishing third in 1:07.21. She was also third in the 200-y individual medley in 2:29. 85 behind Houck (2:24.85).

"It felt pretty good but I wish I had done more under water because I did not have my tempo throughout the race," said Hoppa of her backstroke race. "Other than that it felt pretty good."

Burgess, who swam on all three relays, was second in the 100y breaststroke in 1:14.27

"It was pretty good and I went out and did my best," said Burgess. "It is nice to be here with the team at this smaller meet."

Other top performances included senior Hannah Parulan who was third in the 100y butterfly (1:04.68) and second in the 100-y freestyle (57.28). Houck was the top finisher for the Troubies in the 200y IM (2:24.85) and 500y freestyle (5:43.33), finishing second in both events.

Frosh/Soph event winners included freshman Baya McIntosh (200y IM, 2:09.78; 100y back, 1:06.75), freshman Elin Perry (200y IM, 2:30.19), sophomore Ashley Magley (50y free, 27.35), freshman Taja Suruki (100y fly, 1:11.61), sophomore Zoe Sloat (100y free, 1:01.29) and freshman Bella Austin (100y breast, 1:27.69).

All three Frosh/Soph relays posted victories in the meet including the 200y IM relay (McIntosh, Austin, Abby Newman, Perry), 200y free relay (Lizzy Gilhooly, Johanna Stevenson, Magley and Perry) and 400-yard free relay (McIntosh, Sloat, Stevenson, Suruki)
