SFHS crew earns Optimist All-Star nods
SACRAMENTO, Calif. — St. Francis seniors Carli Padilla, Justine Pulmones and Zoe Hopkins each were selected to participate in the annual Optimist All-Star volleyball match, held on December 4 at Capital Christian School.
 
Additionally, Padilla, Pulmones and middle blocker Sophia Garza captured All-Delta League honors for the 2021 season, with Hopkins claiming the Sportsmanship Award. The Troubadours went 24-10 for the year, reached the Sac-Joaquin Section semifinals and qualified for the CIF NorCal Regional.
 
Padilla, a setter from Sacramento, averaged 8.5 assists in 84 total sets while running an SFHS offense that hit a solid .264 for the season. She also tallied 261 digs, second among the Troubies only behind the libero and Folsom product Pulmones, who totaled 322 for a 4.0 per-set average. Hopkins, a middle from Folsom, had 72 kills and a .355 hitting average to go with 55 stuff blocks. Garza trailed close behind Hopkins with 52 blocks, while her 220 total kills and blistering .474 success rate led her team on the stat sheet.
 
The Optimist All-Stars features the top seniors from the greater Sacramento area. The event consists of two matches, the first of which starts at 1 p.m., with an awards ceremony in between. Christian Brothers' James Todd and Cosumnes Oaks Lisa Fowkes were selected as the head coaches. 
 
Tickets to the match will be available at the gate. An approved face covering will be required to gain entrance to the gym. The full North and South rosters will be announced at a later date.
