Wolfpack edges Troubies in key Senior Night matchup

SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior outside hitter Sofia Alkire posted a career-high 21 kills with just four errors while senior setter Carli Padilla notched 29 digs to go with her 39 assists, but St. Francis fell in a five-set marathon by scores of 31-33, 25-22, 25-18, 20-25 and 11-15 in a key Delta League prep volleyball match at SFHS Gym Monday night.

The two teams entered the evening holding the top two spots in the Delta standings, with the Wolfpack improving to 11-1 and the Troubadours slipping to 8-3 in league play.

The evening also served as Senior Night for the graduates-to-be for both teams, with Padilla, libero Justine Pulmones, defensive specialist Lizzy Gilhooly and middle blocker Zoe Hopkins earning recognition prior to the match.

Alkire entered the match with 31 kills in 20 sets during the 2021 season, with her previous best being a 12-kill performance against Franklin back on September 27. Padilla's defensive total also marked a best for her varsity career, as was the 25 digs from Pulmones.

The SFHS frosh and junior varsity teams each won their respective matches in straight sets. The Troubie frosh squad won by scores of 25-17, 25-12; while the JVs prevailed in a 25-9, 25-15 sweep.

St. Francis wraps up both Delta League and regular-season play at Franklin on Wednesday. The frosh teams square off at 4 p.m., with JV and varsity following after.
