Troubies storm past Wildcats to close out regular season

ELK GROVE, Calif. — Junior middle blocker Sophia Garza posted 10 kills with three blocks and a .421 hitting average while junior left-sider Sofia Alkire tallied a team-leading 11 kills as St. Francis High dispatched host Franklin in a 25-19, 25-7, 25-17 sweep in Delta League girls' volleyball action Wednesday night.

The Troubadours finish their league season with a 9-3 record.

Senior setter Carli Padilla posted 24 assists and 11 digs while serving up a team-high six aces. Alkire (10) and setter Kate Fobes (11) also broke double figures in digs. As a team, SFHS hit .206 with 35 kills against 15 errors for the match.

The Troubie frosh and junior varsity teams each won their respective matches in straight sets. The frosh squad claimed their victory by scores of 25-11, 25-15, while the JV crew posted identical 25-18 set wins.

St. Francis now heads into Sac-Joaquin Section postseason play, awaiting the seedings and pairings from the office on Friday. The tournament will begin on Monday and continue through the section final on Thursday. All matches will take place at home sites.
