St. Francis heads to Amador Valley for NorCal first round

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – St. Francis High School drew a No. 10 seed and a first-round matchup against seventh-seeded Amador Valley in the CIF NorCal Div. I girls volleyball championship tournament, the CIF state office announced Sunday. The match will take place on Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Pleasanton.

The Troubadours reached the semifinals of the Sac-Joaquin Section tournament, holding a 24-9 record entering Tuesday's contest. The 23-9 Dons advanced to the North Coast Section championship match, where they lost to Monte Vista in four sets. 

The winner of the SFHS-AVHS match will then take on the victor of the Clovis North-Salinas matchup, also on Tuesday night. Oak Ridge High holds the top seed and the first-round bye in the NorCal bracket, while Sierra Canyon of Chatsworth claimed the Southern regional's No. 1 seed.

St. Francis has a versatile offense with senior setter Carli Padilla (8.5 assists per set) at its nucleus. Sophia Garza (220), Olivia Mlikotin (219) and Mila Stojakovic (196) lead the Troubies in kills, while libero Justine Pulmones patrols the floor defense with 322 digs in 81 sets.
