    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A total of seven St. Francis swimmers will compete in the seventh CIF state swimming championships, held Friday and Saturday at the Clovis Olympic Sports Complex. Alphabetically, the Troubadour representatives are senior Ava Chavez, senior Maddy Ching, junior Makenna Frederiksen, senior LK Holliday, sophomore Erica Jaffe, senior Jordyn Larson and junior Grace Mering.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Ava Chavez won the 200-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly with school records in each, while sophomore Erica Jaffe snared individual championships in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, leading St. Francis to its first Delta League team title since 2015. The Troubadours scored 619 total points, 19 ahead of defending-champion Davis, and more than the third- through fifth-place teams combined at the championship meet, concluded at American River College Friday.

    SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Maddy Ching, junior Grace Mering and sophomore Erica Jaffe each won two individual events, while Gabriella McHugh and Isabella Schmid each were multiple JV winners, leading St. Francis to dominating wins in each division in the return of Holy Splash, the rivalry swimming dual between the Troubadours and Christian Brothers. The meet took place at Sacramento City College’s Hoos Pool.

    Despite the tired and recurring joke, no, the sport of water polo has nothing to do with horses. While most water polo players have likely heard some version of that turn of phrase, few people have mastered the difference between the aquatic and the equine like St. Francis senior Laura “L.K.” Holliday, who completed her prep career on the Troubadours water polo team, and is about to sign her National Letter of Intent to complete for the equestrian program at nearby UC Davis.
