CARMICHAEL, Calif. – Sophomore Erica Jaffe and senior Ava Chavez each won two individual events and took part in two winning relays, as St. Francis outdueled Carondelet, 95-75, in a prep swimming dual meet between the state's two largest all-girls high schools Monday afternoon.

Host Jesuit High won its half of the meet by an almost identical score, beating De La Salle by a 93-77 final.

Jaffe led a 1-2-4 Troubadour finish in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of two minutes, 7.12 seconds; then led a 1-2-3 team trifecta in the 100 backstroke with a 57.66 clocking. Chavez dominated the field in the 200 freestyle at 1:50.95, then added a winning 55.89 to take the 100 butterfly. Jaffe and Chavez were also members of SF's first-place 200 free relay (1:39.30) and 400 free relay (3:34.96).

The first-through-third sweep in the 100 back garnered the Troubies the maximum 13 points in the overall scoring, as did the trio of Marissa Recio (5:16.30), Jordyn Larson (5:18.83) and Megan Gawlick (5:22.32) in the 500 free. Jaffe, Grace Mering (2:10.54) and Recio (2:16.70) added another 12-point boost in the 200 IM.

Among the unsung heroes of the meet was sophomore Isabelle Schmid, who competed mostly in the junior varsity all season. With St. Francis on spring break, many of the usual swimmers were not available for Monday's meet, allowing Schmid to move up to the varsity events. She responded with third-place finishes in the 200 free (2:02.29) and 100 back (1:03.16).

This is the second straight year with a SF-Carondelet and Jesuit-DLS meeting. The girls' matchup represents a meeting between two former college teammates: Troubie head coach Brian Nabeta and Cougar head coach Roque Santos competed together at Cal back in 1989 before Nabeta transfered to BYU.

St. Francis returns to action with another meet featuring all Catholic schools: the Catholic School Challenge, hosted by Sacred Heart on April 15. This year's edition will feature more than a dozen teams, including six of the top 10 finishers from last year's CIF state championships: Santa Margarita (champion), Saint Francis of Mountain View (tied-fifth), Archbishop Mitty (seventh), Carondelet (10th), St. Francis (tied-eighth) and the host Gators (third).
