SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Senior Maddy Ching, junior Grace Mering and sophomore Erica Jaffe each won two individual events, while Gabriella McHugh and Isabella Schmid each were multiple JV winners, leading St. Francis to dominating wins in each division in the return of Holy Splash, the rivalry swimming dual between the Troubadours and Christian Brothers. The meet took place at Sacramento City College's Hoos Pool.

St. Francis varsity won by a score of 132-38, while JV claimed a 124-43 victory in the team totals. This is the first installment of Holy Splash since 2019, when the meet featured varsity and frosh-soph competitions. It also featured only girls' events – that is, the Jesuit-CB pairing was not part of the meet.

Ching, the UC Davis-bound senior, won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 25.23 seconds, then followed with a winning 59.22 in the 100 butterfly. Mering claimed the 200 individual medley at 2:14.16, then captured the 100 backstroke with a 1:01.63. Jaffe won two events not normally in her Troubie repertoire: 5:00.11 in the 500 free and 1:09.37 in the 100 breaststroke. 

Impressively, Jaffe finished more than 31 full seconds faster than her nearest competitor in the 500 free, teammate Megan Gawlick (5:32.93). In fact, her 200-yard split in that event was 1:58.34, more than four seconds faster than the actual varsity 200 free winner, SF senior Jordyn Larson (2:02.82). Jaffe also led off first-place St. Francis 'A' squads in each of the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay. Her 50 free split of 24.49 in the 200 free relay would have edged Ching for that event.

Among the JV double winners, McHugh touched the 50 free finish pad in 28.13, then prevailed in the 100 breast at 1:20.77. Schmid was victorious in the 200 free (2:04.74) and 100 back (1:03.55). McHugh also anchored the JV 200 medley relay and led off the JV 200 free relay to victories. 

Overall, St. Francis claimed the top three places in five varsity events: the 200 free, 100 fly, 100 free, 500 free and 400 free relay. Troubies also finished at least 1-2-3 in five JV races: 200 free, 200 IM, 100 free, 500 free and 100 back. In fact, the varsity 200 free, varsity 100 free and JV 100 back featured first-through-fourth superfecta finishes for SF.

The Troubies have a quick turnaround for their return to Delta League action, hosting Elk Grove for a 3:30 p.m. dual at Jesuit High on Wednesday.
