Swimmer Ava Chavez Chosen for USA Swimming Western Zone Select Camp

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Rising sophomore Ava Chavez was chosen to participate in the USA Swimming Western Zone Select Camp.

Chavez, who lives in Granite Bay, was chosen among 224 up-and coming athletes from across the country for the 2020 USA Swimming Zone Select Camps, which were slated to start this weekend at four locations nationwide.

She was a varsity letter winner in her first season swimming for St. Francis, winning two events and two relays in the dual meet against Franklin in her final swims before the season was canceled. She won the 200 freestyle (1:53.05) and 100 freestyle (53.40) and contributed on two of the Troubadour's winning relays.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, these camps have pivoted to a virtual format to provide the athletes who've earned this distinction a unique learning experience. The sessions will be facilitated by James Leath, founder of Unleash the Athlete, and will include discussions on leadership, including navigating change, setting and adapting goals, mental resiliency and character development. Athletes will also attend a virtual panel discussion with current and former National Team athletes, including Kelsi Dahlia, Hannah Moore, Sean Ryan and Tom Luchsinger.
